Es ist eindeutig erwiesen, dass der heutige Klimawandel vom Menschen verursacht wird (IPPC 2007).  Skeptiker bringen alle möglichen Argumente gegen einen vom Menschen verursachten Klimawandel, die aber wissenschaftlich widerlegt werden können (siehe Informationsquellen - Klimaskeptiker kontern).  Natürlich hat sich das Klima im Laufe der Erdgeschichte schon immer verändert.  Aber die Geschwindigkeit und Ausmaße dieser Veränderungen sind sehr viel höher als die innerhalb der letzten 650.000 Jahre. 

Haupt-Ursache für den Klimawandel ist das Verbrennen fossiler Treibstoffe (Kohle, Benzin, Erdgas), wodurch große Mengen Kohlendioxid freigesetzt werden.  Andere Treibhausgase spielen aber auch eine wichtige Rolle, v.a. Methan und Stickoxide.

Neben dem Verbrennen fossiler Treibstoffe trägt auch die Viehwirtschaft zu den Treibhausgas-Emissionen bei: Ungefähr 20% aller Treibhausgase werden durch die Viehwirtschaft freigesetzt, durch Energieaufwand für die Viehwirtschaft, sowie durch das Vieh selbst (Methan).

Schließlich verursacht die Habitatszerstörung, dass weniger CO2 von Boden und Pflanzen aufgenommen werden kann, was ebenfalls einen Anstieg con CO2 in der Atmosphäre bewirkt.  Habitatszerstörung zusammen mit Brandrodung generieren ungefähr 20% aller Treibhausgase.

Eine grosse Befürchtung ist, dass durch das Tauen des Permafrostbodens große Mengen von Treibhausgasen freigesetzt werden (v.a. Methan), welche dann die Erderwärmung außer Kontrolle geraten lassen würden.  Deswegen ist es von großer Wichtigkeit, dass wir alles tun, um Treibhausgasemissionen global ab sofort drastisch zu senken.

Erderwärmung wird kritische Grenze überschreiten

Zwei Grad Celsius - stärker darf sich die Erde nicht erwärmen, sonst drohen nach Meinung von Forschern katastrophale Folgen. Eine neue Studie besagt jetzt: Die Zwei-Grad-Grenze wird fallen, selbst wenn die Vorhaben zur Treibhausgas-Reduzierung umgesetzt werden.

Treibhausgase bleiben Jahrtausende in der Luft.

Der massive Ausstoß von Treibhausgasen wird das Klima der Erde viel länger und nachhaltiger erwärmen als allgemein bekannt. Allein bis zum Jahr 2300 könnte der Meeresspiegel zusätzlich um mehrere Meter ansteigen, prophezeien Forscher. http://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/natur/0,1518,512305,00.html

The growth rate of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing rapidly, says an international team of scientists. Three processes are contributing to this growth: two concern emissions and the third a decline in the efficiency of natural land and ocean sinks in their ability to soak up atmospheric carbon dioxide. All these changes hint at a carbon cycle that could lead to a faster than expected onset of climate change.
