Projects
Gloria.
The purpose of GLORIA is to establish and maintain a world-wide long-term observation network in alpine environments. Vegetation and temperature data collected at the GLORIA sites will be used for discerning trends in species diversity and temperature. The data will be used to assess and predict losses in biodiversity and other threats to these fragile alpine ecosystems which are under accelerating climate change pressures.
AlpWaterScarce
is a European project funded by the Alpine Space programme, which is part of the "European Territorial Cooperation" (Objective 3 of the Regional Policy 2007-2013). The Lead Partner is the Mountain Institute situated in Bourget du Lac, Savoy, Rhone-ALpes. Starting in October 2008 it will run over a period of 3 years. Its global budget is approx. 4 Mio. €. The 17 project partners including 4 Austrian, 2 Swiss, 3 French, 5 Italian, and 3 Slovenian, include local governments, provinces, federal institutes and offices, universities, regional agencies, alpine societies, geological surveys, and chambers of agriculture and forestry.
Econnect
The Alps are one of the most intensively exploited mountain ranges and one of Europe’s largest biodiversity pools. All Alpine States share the responsibility to preserve this exceptional biodiversity. Animals and plants need to migrate - even more in times of climate change - between habitats. They cannot halt at state borders or remain in Protected Areas. It is therefore essential to maintain, improve and create ecological networks across the entire Alpine region and to surrounding lowlands and mountain ranges. Only a transnational approach in compliance with the Alpine Convention will lead to satisfying results for both nature conservation and related spatial aspects.
